About

Hi! I am a conservation scientist with research interests in sustainable management of multifunctional landscapes for biodiversity conservation and human well-being,  and science-policy interface.

I am currently working as a Protected Areas Specialist with the Environment and Climate Change Canada, Government of Canada. As a part of this role, I lead management, monitoring and public and Indigenous engagement at Alberta Protected Areas that includes four National Wildlife Areas and four Migratory Bird Sanctuaries in Alberta.

Before this, I worked as a Senior Wildlife Biologist with the Government of Alberta, Canada (2022-2024). This involved the management of all wildlife and wildlife habitat programs and ensuring the long term sustainability of wildlife populations and their habitats in the Fort McMurray area in Alberta. I also worked as a Postdoctoral fellow at University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada (Apr 2022- Sep 2022) focusing on the urban and local-scale Indigenous Protected and Conserved Areas (IPCAs) across Canada to understand how they have been created and managed. I was also a Postdoctoral fellow at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada for three years (Sep 2019- Mar 2022). I worked on the biodiversity assessment and monitoring under the integrated landscape approach that aimed to reduce emissions and poverty and contribute to sustainable use of biodiversity.

My doctoral work at University of Sheffield (2014-2018), UK assessed the potential of conservation interventions such as REDD+ policy in sustainably managing shifting cultivation to protect carbon stocks and bird diversity in Nagaland, Northeast India. Post-PhD, I worked as a Conservation Officer at the Royal Society for Protection of Birds (RSPB) (Mar 2019-Aug 2019). This involved conducting bird surveys in farmland and providing conservation advice to farmers for sustainable management of the wider Irish countryside in County Farmanagh, Northern Ireland.
